Anyone swimming off the coast of California, can look out for gigantic oarfish fish, like this one that washed up on the shores of Toyon Bay, Catalina Island.

Here’s one they caught earlier:
2001.

In 1996, the US Navy caught a 26-ft long oar fish:

In 1954:
Amateur fisherman Keith McRae of Sydney, Australia thought he had landed the original sea serpent when he hooked this oar fish, 12-feet long, in Sydney Harbor on June 13, 1954. The Curator of Fishes of the Australian Museum who identified the catch, said they grow to 40 feet.
